Ngoma: Genocide Survivor Brutally Killed
By The Inspirer.
Pauline Nduwamungu, a 66-year-old survivor of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, was brutally killed on Thursday, November 14, 2024, by unknown individuals.
Her death was discovered on the morning of Friday, November 15, after neighbors began searching for her.
According to Omar Biseruka, the president of IBUKA in Ngoma District, Nduwamungu lived in Akabungo Village, Rubago Cell, Rukumberi Sector, with a young child who was attending school.
The attackers reportedly struck in broad daylight, dumping her body in a garbage pit and covering it with soil after severing her head, which remains missing as of Saturday.
“When neighbors could not find her, they started searching and noticed the garbage pit was freshly covered. They uncovered it and found her body without the head,” Biseruka explained.
He added that the murder appeared premeditated, as she lived along a busy tarmac road and in close proximity to other homes with shared fences.
“She had no known disputes with anyone. This seems to be an act driven by the genocidal ideology of harming a survivor,” Biseruka stated.
Two suspects have been detained by the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) as investigations continue.
