Muhanga High Council Court sentences lawyer to 15 years for defilement of a minor

Muhanga, December 30, 2025 — The High Council Court of Muhanga has convicted lawyer Me Kanani Boniface of defilement of a minor and sentenced him to 15 years’ imprisonment, court records show.
According to UMUSEKE, the judgment was delivered on Tuesday evening following the court’s determination that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt. The court further ruled that the civil claim for damages filed by the victim was legally substantiated.
In the same ruling, the court found Mizero Violette guilty of aiding and abetting the offence and sentenced her to five years’ imprisonment.
The court ordered Me Kanani Boniface to pay Frw 1,000,000 in compensation to the victim for damages suffered.
During earlier stages of the proceedings, the accused had pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The ruling is subject to appeal within the timelines provided by law.
