New TV Championship program to promote early public speaking skills

The IDEBATE TV Championship Program was designed by IDEBATE Non-Government Organization to help young Rwandan students from high school institutions improve their public speaking skills.

The pre-recorded debate program will be aired on KC2 Local Television Channel every Friday at 8:00pm and Sunday at 12:00 pm, bringing together at least three children from one school in Kigali against three children from another school in the Eastern Province.

Targeted students are from senior one to senior six of high school institutions.

Speaking during a press conference on Thursday, March 3, 2022, Mr. Bruno Bugingo, IDEBATE Local Program Coordinator said that this TV championship will target 70 schools in Kigali city and 45 schools from the Eastern-Rwanda.

“We have these schools in the pilot project that will participate in this program but we plan to go countrywide. We have trainers who will be coaching the students in their respective school institutions and, in every term we have a training program in every school.” Bugingo said.

As the competition takes an advanced level, it will gather eight (8) students from one school against eight (8) students from another school and best speakers will be given prizes including medals, certificates and laptops according to Ms. Adelphe Rugundana, IDEBATE International Program Coordinator.

“The competition will enable young girls to be confident while speaking in the public. At the end of the championship, 20 best speakers will be awarded.” Rugundana said.
