By The Inspirer.

A fatal road accident occurred on September 10, 2025, in Gishyita Sector, Karongi District, when a FUSO truck transporting livestock from Ngoma to Nyamasheke lost control at a curve and overturned.

The crash, which happened at Dawe Uri mu Ijuru in Rufumberi Village, left one passenger, Dusengumukiza Alexandre (30) from Kayonza District, dead on the spot. The driver, Uzabakiriho Alpha, and another passenger, Nyirahabumugisha Asinathe, sustained minor injuries and were treated at Mugonero Hospital before being discharged. About 30 goats being transported also died.

Rwanda National Police Traffic Department Spokesperson SP Emmanuel Kayigi said the accident was caused by overspeeding, reckless driving, and driver fatigue. He urged drivers to rest when tired and called on passengers to avoid pressuring fatigued drivers to continue their journeys.

This incident follows another recent crash in Nyamasheke District involving a Coaster bus, where driver fatigue was also a contributing factor.
