Kamonyi: Suspect in wife’s murder sentenced to life imprisonment
By Theinspirer.
The Muhanga Intermediate Court has sentenced Nshimiyimana Damien, also known as Daniel, to life imprisonment for allegedly killing his wife.
The ruling was delivered in Nyakabande Village, Buguri Cell, Rukoma Sector, where the crime was committed.
The court confirmed that Nshimiyimana would not receive a reduced sentence due to the brutality with which he committed the crime—striking his wife on the head and back twice with a hoe.
Nshimiyimana had appealed for a lesser sentence, but the court dismissed his plea, stating that life imprisonment is non-negotiable under the law. The court clarified that only sentences not exceeding five years can be suspended.
The crime for which Nshimiyimana was convicted took place on September 18, 2023. He was accused of killing his wife, Uwimanifashije Jacqueline, with whom he was in an unofficial marital relationship.
During the previous hearing, the prosecution argued that the crime was exceptionally severe and that Nshimiyimana did not deserve any leniency in his sentencing.
Nshimiyimana and the victim had no children together.
