By The Inspirer.
Kamonyi District was thrown into alarm after police shot and killed three men who attacked civilians with machetes at a local bar in Ngamba Sector, leaving four people injured. The victims were rushed to Remera Rukoma Hospital for treatment.
According to Southern Province Police Spokesperson, Commissioner Hassan Kamanzi, the attackers “were actively committing violent acts against our citizens,” and police acted decisively to prevent further harm.
Witnesses described a terrifying scene on the night of September 16–17, 2025, in Raro Village, Kabuga Cell. The assailants entered the bar brandishing machetes and traditional weapons, carrying drugs and alcohol. Some patrons tried to defend themselves but were quickly overwhelmed.
The bar owner reportedly recognized some of the attackers, known for previous violent acts. When police arrived, the men attempted to strike the officers, forcing the police to open fire.
Commissioner Kamanzi reassured the public that police will not tolerate violent criminals, especially those using traditional weapons, and promised further details as the investigation continues.
Residents have called for stricter measures against armed criminals to safeguard communities.
