President Paul Kagame is expected to attend the third Russia–Africa Summit in Moscow on October 28–29, as Rwanda and Russia seek to deepen economic and political cooperation.
Rwanda’s Ambassador to Russia, Maj. Gen. Joseph Nzabamwita, confirmed the planned attendance in an interview with Russian news agency TASS following the ninth international forum, “The North Caucasus: Space of Dialogue, Traditions and Development.”
Nzabamwita said the two countries were preparing an agreement to establish a joint commission on socioeconomic and political cooperation, which is expected to be signed during the summit.
“We intend to establish the first socioeconomic and political commission, which should be signed during the third Russia–Africa Summit, which our president will attend on October 28–29,” he told TASS.
The ambassador said Rwanda’s participation in the North Caucasus forum was also intended to expand cooperation beyond national-level engagement and strengthen ties with regional authorities and businesses.
He invited companies from Russia’s North Caucasus region to explore investment opportunities in Rwanda, particularly in mineral fertiliser production.
“We want to invite companies from the North Caucasus to come and invest in Rwanda,” Nzabamwita said, adding that establishing fertiliser manufacturing facilities in Rwanda could offer a more affordable and cost-effective option than importing finished products.
The planned summit comes as Rwanda and Russia seek to broaden cooperation across several sectors, including trade, investment, education, healthcare, technology and energy.
The proposed joint commission is expected to provide a framework for coordinating cooperation and advancing agreements between the two countries.
