ISOC Rwanda Chapter, Bugesera District start construction of Kibungo Internet Access Center

Internet Society Rwanda Chapter (ISOC) in partnership with Bugesera District have on Friday, March 10, 2023 officially opened the construction of Kibungo Internet Access Center (KIAC) in the premises of Groupe Scolaire (G.S) Kibungo located in Ntarama sector.

This activity was coincided with the signature of a long-term partnership agreement with the school to promote positive use of the internet in teaching and learning processes to improve quality of education.

According to Emmanuel Mfitumukiza, Chairperson of ISOC Rwanda, the facility aims at bridging the digital divide and providing communication and educational opportunities in the school and surrounding community.

“We have started to officially build Kibungo Internet Access Center (KIAC), it will help in providing training on digital literacy and to help the school get access to internet infrastructure, connecting also the citizens around the school.,” Mfitumukiza said.

The center will be used as a computer lab for the students and it will increase knowledge on positive use of internet in the school and surrounding community.

Mfitumukiza explained that the signed partnership agreement with G.S Kibungo aims at promoting positive use of internet in the school with the emphasis on learning and teaching processes.

“We will provide different training courses to the school leaders, teachers and students in general on the use of internet in improving quality education,” he said.

Internet Society Rwanda Chapter currently works with four schools in Bugesera district and expands training opportunities to other institutions in the area.

ISOC Rwanda will continue to boost digital literacy among teachers in Bugesera district and encourage citizens to use internet in a positive and productive manner.

G.S Kibungo has the responsibilities to make the infrastructure productive for the school and neighboring citizens. “We wish that Kibungo becomes a source of information on positive and productive use of internet in the community, especially in Ntarama sector,” said Mfitumukiza.

Jacques Gashumba, Director of Education in Bugesera District who contributed to the official beginning of the construction of KIAC, said that this center will help in the improvement of skills in internet use among the teachers and students.

“We need to improve digital skills especially internet use in the schools, this center in an asset for this school to increase performance in learning and teaching processes, and we believe it will boost the quality of education in the near future,” Gashumba said.

The construction project of KIAC will be completed in December 2023 with the total funding of $50,000.
