Ngarambe Joseph, a 34-year-old known as Ngarambe from Nyaruhombo in Nyaruhombo Cell, Rwaniro Sector, Huye District, was found dead in the Mwogo River after being missing for three days.
News of his death emerged on November 8, 2024. It is reported that he left home to go fishing, which was his regular job, but he didn’t return home.
His wife, Mujawayezu Triphine, stated that he left home around 9 p.m. to go fishing.
“He left on Monday night at 9 p.m. to fish. I waited for him to return but he didn’t. We searched everywhere but couldn’t find him. We finally found him on Friday, where he was caught in the waters of Mwogo River,” she said.
Close neighbors expressed their shock over his death. He was known for frequently calling local radio stations in the Southern Province, including Huye Community Radio (RC Huye), Radio Salus, and even stations in Kigali.
The spokesperson for the Rwanda National Police in the Southern Province, SP Emmanuel Habiyeremye, confirmed the news of Ngarambe’s death to IGIHE, saying his body was indeed found in the water after several days.
“The body was handed over to his family for burial, and investigations are ongoing to determine the cause behind his drowning,” he said.
SP Habiyeremye also advised residents to avoid entering rivers during this rainy season, as such waters pose risks to human life.
It was also reported that before drowning, the deceased had left his machete and a pair of boots on the riverbank before entering the water.
Ngarambe was buried on November 9, 2024, in his hometown of Nyaruhombo, leaving behind his wife and two children.
