House of Cakes empowers 20 staff with new skills through TVET partnership

Kigali, December 21, 2025 — House of Cakes Ltd, a company specializing in professional baking and cooking services as well as coffee offerings, on Sunday concluded a two-month skills upgrading training program for 20 of its employees. The program aimed to enhance baking and cooking expertise and improve customer service delivery, as part of efforts to raise service quality and strengthen workplace professionalism.

The training was supported by the Skills Development Fund (SDF) through the Rwanda TVET Board, under a cooperation agreement signed between House of Cake Ltd and Rwanda TVET Board.

The program was designed to align learning with real work experience, allowing participants to continue their daily duties while upgrading their skills, in line with Rwanda’s competence-based training policy.

The closing ceremony was attended by the Managing Director of House of Cakes Ltd, the lead trainer Dr. Alphonse Habimana, the Executive Secretary of Kiyovu Cell Jean de Dieu Uwihoreye, and the representative of Nyarugenge District leadership, Robert Bizumuremyi. Their presence highlighted the growing collaboration between the private sector and public institutions in promoting sustainable development.

Key remarks during the ceremony

Speaking on behalf of the trainees, a representative expressed gratitude to House of Cakes Ltd and Rwanda TVET Board for the opportunity, noting that participants gained practical skills in professional baking, workplace hygiene and safety, customer care, and teamwork.

The trainees committed to applying the acquired knowledge to improve service delivery, increase productivity, and enhance the company’s reputation, adding that the training had significantly boosted their professional confidence.

Dr. Habimana praised the trainees for their dedication and eagerness to learn, and commended House of Cakes Ltd for investing in continuous skills development for its workforce.

He encouraged employees to demonstrate the skills gained to both their employer and customers, emphasizing that the training is aligned with labor market needs and will enable them to compete at national and regional levels. He added that such initiatives contribute to the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

The Managing Director of House of Cakes Ltd thanked the Skills Development Fund and Rwanda TVET Board for the strong partnership, stressing that investing in employees’ skills is a key pillar of the company’s growth.

He said the training will enable the company to deliver higher-quality services, create sustainable jobs, and contribute to the government’s vision of promoting practical skills and decent work.

Representing the leadership of Nyarugenge District, Robert Bizumuremyi commended House of Cakes Ltd for prioritizing employee skills development, noting that it aligns with national policies aimed at boosting productivity, reducing unemployment, and empowering youth and workers.

He encouraged other companies to adopt similar partnerships with TVET institutions and the Skills Development Fund to support national development.

The ceremony concluded with the awarding of certificates to the trainees, followed by a group photo to mark the milestone achieved in advancing skills development and quality employment.
