[FEATURED]: AGRIRESEARCH, a youth National Non-Governmental organization graduated in distinguished agricultural courses

AGRIRESEARCH, a youth National Non-Governmental organization with 26 founder members graduated in distinguished agricultural courses and was recognized among 50 youth-led solutions towards achieving sustainable development goals.

The organization and its counterpart-winners will be featured in 2020 Edition of the youth solutions report and all the 50 winners will be recognized by Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), a global initiative by United Nations where they will be given $25,000 each.

AGRIRESEARCH carries out agricultural research and, extension services with missions to foster the research culture in youth, popularize agriculture in youth, diversify crop production, increase crop productivity and to reduce post-harvest losses along the driving vision of making Rwanda’s agriculture a less climate-sensitive, environmental-friendly, and economically reliable sector. 

AGRIRESEARCH brings the society with solutions through research and extension services.

The Organization is used to go digital, besides the global winning project, SmartInput, the Organization has the other amazing app “AGRITrials” that connects farmers, agricultural students and field experts to share knowledge and experience across wide range of topics.

                                                              SmartInput will ensure a good-safety-level use of agrochemicals by growers    

Distinguished agricultural courses were delivered to competitors through Q & A platform that convened 330 people with the majority from Rwanda, Nigeria, Kenya and United Kingdom respectively. More than 100 questions were asked and almost answered.

Speaking to The Inspirer, Abdu Usanase, Chief Executive Officer of AGRIRESERACH  said that they  are thrilled for their project “SmartInput” to be featured in the Youth Solutions Report.

He explained that SmartInput is an android application that will help farmers precisely use agricultural inputs including Seed, fertilizers and pesticides.

The application also contains useful information on good quality seed, where depending on the crop a farmer is willing to grow in the current season they can readily have access to respective information.

“This android application will help farmers identify potential yields depending on grown crop, land sizes and agronomic practices to help them plan for future investment because if a farmer doesn’t know what he or she is supposed to harvest seasonally, he or she won’t plan accordingly in the upcoming seasons.” Usanase said.

“Briefly, SmartInput will ensure a good-safety-level use of agrochemicals by growers; and this will help reduce chemical residues in agricultural products, protecting consumers from the potentially harmful chemicals. The overall objective is to make agriculture more efficiency and environment-friendly.” He added.

Impacting the Rwanda and global community

Usanase said that their activities will not only impact Rwanda, but the also the region and the global community.

“We work hard to have our work impacting the local community but being featured in Youth Solutions Report shows us a sign that we can bring impact to the whole universe. We are so excited to have the project that can impact the world; we thought it was a dream. However, it came to reality. This gets us going beyond the so-called limits, going endlessly forward.” He noted.

He said that Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) will provide a grant worth USD 25,000 to scale-up their project.

“Besides, SDSN will help in boosting our visibility, connecting us to the partners for capacity building and funding opportunities.” He added.

“Our competitiveness shows that Rwanda has got youth who are not only positively impacting their home communities but also regions’. This also gives a hope about the Rwanda’s future as they are still many innovations that are solutions to the current and future challenges.”
