EdTech Monday Returns with a Focus on Empowering Teachers with Digital Skills

EdTech Monday makes its much-anticipated comeback on KT Radio, highlighting the profound impact of equipping teachers with digital competencies for modern education and workforce development. Scheduled for February 26, this edition marks the first EdTech Monday of 2024, poised to delve into the pivotal role of teacher training in advancing digital learning and nurturing human capital.

An initiative spearheaded by the Mastercard Foundation Centre for Innovative Teaching and Learning in ICT, in collaboration with the Rwanda ICT Chamber, EdTech Monday aims to harness technology’s potential to revolutionize education in Rwanda.

Under the theme “The Impact of Comprehensive Teacher Training Programs and Professional Development Resources on Advanced Digital Learning,” this episode seeks to cultivate the skilled workforce essential for Rwanda’s transition to a middle-income economy.

Broadcasting in Kinyarwanda on KTRadio and streamed live on Kigali Today’s YouTube channel from 6 PM to 7 PM, EdTech Monday’s panelists include Dr. Irenee Ndayambaje, Senior Lecturer at the University of Rwanda College of Education (URCoE), Niyonsenga Lambert, Science and Robotics Educational Specialist at Creativity Lab Rwanda, and Uwamariya Mariette, Assistant Trainer at eShuri. The discussion will spotlight the profound impact of comprehensive teacher training programs and professional development resources on advancing digital learning.

“Quality education hinges on effective teaching, with educators serving as the cornerstone of educational transformation. By empowering teachers with digital skills, we are equipping Rwanda with the human capital necessary to lead the region in information and communication technology (ICT),” states the Mastercard Foundation.

During the program, three distinguished guests will convene at KT Radio studios to explore various themes, including the current landscape of digital learning in Rwanda, the efficacy of professional development resources in enhancing teachers’ digital proficiency and teaching methodologies, and the challenges and opportunities of integrating digital learning into pedagogical practices.

Additional topics up for debate include the strategies employed to ensure the scalability and widespread adoption of advanced digital learning practices in local schools, alongside the roles played by key stakeholders such as the Ministry of Education, Rwanda Basic Education Board, and Rwanda TVET Board.
