Barafinda Submits Candidature for Presidential Position

Barafinda Sekikubo Fred has submitted his candidature as an independent candidate for the Presidential elections scheduled for July 2024 to the National Electoral Commission (NEC).

He presented his candidature on May 29, 2024, and was received by Oda Gasinzigwa, the Chairperson of the National Electoral Commission.

Barafinda submitted a letter, his biography, two colored passport-sized photos, a photocopy of his national ID, a birth certificate, and a document showing that he has no other nationality.

This man, often seen as a comedian, also provided a certificate indicating he has no criminal record, a personal identification mark to be placed on the form, and a list of 600 people who signed to support his candidature.

The National Electoral Commission (NEC) stated that all his documents will be reviewed, but none were missing.

Barafinda indicated that the journey to collect the 600 signatures required by the National Electoral Commission was not easy, comparing it to climbing Mount Karisimbi.

He said, “The journey to seek supporters for my candidature was very difficult, it was like climbing Mount Karisimbi, but no matter what, we cannot argue with God because faith creates and everything is possible when you believe in God and trust in Him.”
