Amb. Karega calls on Rwandans in DRC to strengthen the culture of Unity and Patriotism

The Rwandan Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Vincent Karega, called on Rwandans living in the DRC to strengthen the culture of unity and patriotism to better value the reasons why Rwandan heroes gave their lives.

This is part of a message from Ambassador Karega to Rwandans living in the Democratic Republic of Congo during the celebration of Heroes’ Day on February 1^st, 2021.

Ambassador Karega said Heroes’ Day is a great day for the country to look back and re-evaluate, remembering the heroes who have given their lives, saying that there is a need to strengthen the country’s triumph as the heroes fought for it.

“This is a great time to appreciate why the heroes gave their lives. Unity and patriotism are essential for building a strong and prosperous country for all.”

“The combined efforts of leaders and executives, various employees, investors, civil society and others, are very important. Wherever we are, we must support our culture, our unity, and our country, which is suitable for tourists and diversified investment.”

Amb Karega also called on Rwandans living in the DRC to remain united and committed to serving the country, saying, “We are together, we stand for the unity of Rwandans, we work for our country wherever we are in partnership, it will be a victory.”

On February 1, 2021, Heroes’ Day was celebrated for the 27^th time, with the theme: “Our Heroism, our Dignity.” The day was celebrated by Rwandans in their homes in compliance with COVID-19 prevention guidelines, but various leaders have taken the time to give messages to the community, as part of a joint celebration of the day.

Rwanda’s heroes are currently in three categories, the Imanzi consisting of the Unknown Soldier and General Major Fred Gisa Rwigema, Imena including King Mutara Rudahigwa, Rwagasana Michel, Agathe Uwiringiyimana, Niyitegeka Félicité and the Inyange Students and; the third category of heroes is ‘Ingenzi’ comprises living heroes but their list is yet to be published and according to local media reports, the Chancellery has submitted names of 70 candidates for this decoration who are subject to cabinet approval.
