A Forum for Small and Medium Enterprises to Be Established in Rwanda

The Private Sector Federation (PSF) in Rwanda is in discussions with various organizations to share ideas and establish a forum for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Rwanda.

This forum is expected to boost Rwanda’s economy and help these businesses increase their capabilities, thereby positively impacting their stakeholders in a sustainable manner.

The discussions, which took place on May 29, 2024, involved the PSF, government agencies, and various ministries. The meeting aimed to create a platform for exchanging ideas and exploring different programs and methods for the growth of SMEs.

It was highlighted that the development of these businesses will be achieved by enhancing their capacities, sharing knowledge, and removing existing barriers in this sector. Additionally, the collaboration will help these businesses understand the importance of good governance in their development and continued success.

The forum is also expected to assist SMEs in growing and transitioning into large enterprises by fostering good governance practices and improving their chances of obtaining loans when needed.

Callixte Kanamugire, the Deputy CEO of PSF in charge of Advocacy, stated that the forum aims to bridge gaps identified in SMEs by providing a platform to address issues and offer solutions.

“In our previous meetings, we discussed various topics, and the idea of establishing an SME forum emerged. We will continue to discuss how to create this forum to address and eliminate the identified problems,” he said.

One of the challenges faced by the Private Sector Federation has been connecting businesses and promoting their growth while enhancing the skills of their employees. The establishment of this forum will help eliminate obstacles that entrepreneurs face, as it will serve as a solid advocacy channel within various government institutions.
