Jeannette Kagame hosts Rachel Chebet Ruto at Imbuto Foundation

Kenya’s First Lady, Rachel Chebet Ruto—who is in Rwanda on a working visit—was received by First Lady Jeannette Kagame at the Imbuto Foundation offices on Friday, 14 November 2025.

During the visit, Mrs Kagame briefed her guest on the Foundation’s work across health, education, and women and girls’ empowerment. Rachel Ruto also toured the Eza-Urugwiro ECD Centre, an early childhood development facility located within the Office of the President.

Mrs Kagame is widely recognised for her leadership through Imbuto Foundation, which she founded more than 20 years ago. Her efforts have played a decisive role in advancing girls’ right to education—ensuring equal learning opportunities and celebrating academic excellence through annual awards. To date, more than 8,000 outstanding girls have been honoured.

She has also championed innovations in reproductive health, advocating for youth-friendly services that help adolescents prevent unplanned pregnancies and protect their wellbeing, including through HPV vaccination.

Mrs Kagame’s visionary leadership continues to inspire programmes that build resilience and expand opportunities for young people—both boys and girls—highlighting the role First Ladies can play in transforming lives and promoting inclusive development.

Founded in 2001, Imbuto Foundation began as PACFA (Protection and Care of Families Against HIV/AIDS), an initiative focused on fighting HIV and restoring hope to affected families. As its work expanded, it was renamed Imbuto Foundation in 2007 to reflect its broader contribution to health, education, youth empowerment, and economic resilience for vulnerable households.
