Alexis Nyandwi Crowned Rwanda’s Best Agri-Influencer at OFAB Media Awards

Kigali, Rwanda September 29, 2025– With an infectious smile and unmatched energy, Alexis Nyandwi stood tall this week as he was crowned Rwanda’s Best Agri-Influencer at the 4th Edition of the OFAB Media Awards.

For the first time in the award’s history, a special category recognizing agri-influencers was introduced—and Nyandwi set the bar high by winning the inaugural prize.

The recognition by the Open Forum on Agricultural Biotechnology (OFAB) marks a milestone not just for Nyandwi, but also for Rwanda’s growing community of digital storytellers driving conversations on science, biotechnology, and agriculture.

His victory propels him to the continental stage, where he will represent Rwanda in the Africa-wide OFAB competition.

A journey of consistency and passion

Speaking to The Inspirer after his win, Nyandwi recalled his humble beginnings in 2015, when he started creating agricultural content while working at the Ministry of Agriculture.

What began as late-night and early-morning social media posts—sometimes dismissed as jokes by followers—has blossomed into a powerful platform for knowledge-sharing and advocacy.

“Consistency is everything,” he said. “For ten years, I dedicated myself to posting, researching, and engaging people about agriculture and biotechnology. Recognition like this doesn’t come easy—it requires patience, energy, and belief in your mission.”

Nyandwi emphasized that his award is not just personal but symbolic for all influencers passionate about using science and technology to transform African agriculture.

Changing mindsets about science

Nyandwi has built his brand around a simple but powerful message: “Science is not a killer.” Through his posts, he works to demystify biotechnology, helping farmers, youth, and policymakers see its potential to increase yields, reduce pesticide use, and make farming more sustainable.

“Many farmers—almost 90%—still don’t understand what biotechnology means. Some even fear it,” he explained. “My role is to change that mindset. Science is not a threat—it is a tool for modern farming and a pathway to food security.”

Recognition and responsibility

For Nyandwi, being recognized by OFAB and Rwanda’s agricultural community is both a dream fulfilled and a new responsibility. “This is a miracle for me. It’s a privilege I don’t take for granted. Representing my country at the continental level means I have to work even harder,” he said.

Over the years, Nyandwi has received acknowledgments from institutions like the Ministry of Agriculture, but the OFAB Media Award, he noted, is a national recognition that elevates his influence to new heights.

Inspiring the next generation of agri-influencers

Nyandwi also had a message for young people eager to enter the digital space: “Don’t stop. Keep posting, keep creating content, and use your platforms to educate. Agriculture and biotechnology are not boring—they are about life, food, and solutions for our future.”

As he prepares to represent Rwanda on the continental stage, Nyandwi’s story embodies the power of persistence, vision, and digital influence in reshaping narratives around African agriculture.

“Science is not a killer,” he repeats with conviction. “It is a cure, it is food, it is life.”

Nyandwi Biography

Alexis Nyandwi is a Rwandan entrepreneur, communications expert, and advocate for youth engagement in agriculture. He holds an educational background in Communications and Public Relations and brings over 10 years of professional experience in communications and public relations.

Throughout his career, Alexis has worked and collaborated with both local and international institutions, including the Rwanda Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources (MINAGRI) as Communications Officer and Photographer for five years, the Rwanda Youth in Agribusiness Forum (RYAF) as PR and Communication Officer for three years, the COMESA Federation of Women in Business (COMFWB) as Head of Public Relations for two years, and the African Union – Inter-African Bureau for Animal Resources (AU-IBAR) since 2015 as a Communications Consultant. He is also actively involved with the African Agribusiness Incubation Network (AAIN).

Currently, Alexis leads the Media and Communications Office at Horticulture in Reality Corporation Ltd (HoReCo), where he continues to provide strategic communications guidance.

Since 2014, Alexis has been a pioneering voice in amplifying the visibility of Rwanda’s agriculture sector through social media. He has played a key role in promoting agricultural entrepreneurship among youth and raising awareness about the transformative impact of biotechnology in farming. His work has inspired many young people to explore agriculture not only as a vocation but also as a thriving business opportunity.
