Liberal party pledges support for the 7-year Govt programme

The liberal party of Rwanda in its vision ahead commits to continue supporting his Excellency President of the Republic Paul Kagame after campaigning and contributing to his successful election.

The commitment was revealed on Sunday, December 10, 2017 during the one-day workshop that brought together over 65 women with aim of training women on gender equity and equality promotion as well as job creation and  working in cooperatives for being able to access to finance.

Speaking while opening the workshop, Hon. Donatille Mukabalisa, the president of the party said that they are committed as party members to continue supporting the Government of Rwanda and his Excellency President of The Republic Paul Kagame to streamline the nation’s achievements after they have campaigned and participated to his election.

“We want to see the role of gender equality between women and men in creating jobs and working in cooperatives, this is among our country’s principles in the article 10 of the constitution, the principle of gender equality should be understood in the same way,

It is an opportunity given by our President Paul Kagame and we should have the results up on its implementation in development of our country and Africa, and that togetherness will help us to move faster,” Mukabalisa said.

Mukabalisa also said that the move will highlight the freedom of people in implementing the complementarities of men and women, with equal opportunities.

She said that their gathered efforts as women and men will push the development of the country.

Marie Claire Mukamusonera, representative of women in the party at country level said that their efforts will be concentrated in building the country and support the journey of the seven year government program.

“We are committed to build our party, building our development and continue supporting our country and his Excellency Paul Kagame in this mandate, we campaigned for him and then elected him, so we are ready to continue supporting him,” said Mukamusonera.

She said that PL women are playing a role in politics especially in contributing ideas and implementing the national program.

“We participated towards supporting the government’s policy and we are ready for its implementation, it includes the principle of gender equality between women and men,” Mukamusonera said.

The party has 3 women candidates in parliament for the upcoming parliamentarian election according to Mukamusonera.

The workshop was focusing on gender equality and to remind Rwandans on job creation initiative.

Jacqueline Uwayezu, also a member for the party said that the workshop was enough significant as many Rwandans still need capacity building in creating jobs.

Zulfat Musabyemariya, a party member from Gitega sector in Nyargenge district said that as members are closer to His Excellency Paul Kagame in building the country.

“We will always strive to support and implement all the initiatives to empower women, to maintain security of Rwandans and through that journey we will complement local government authorities in the implementation of the national program,” said Musabyemariya.

Dr.Jean Paul Kabera, the deputy chief gender monitor at the party said more have been achieved in post genocide Rwanda mainly in terms of legal and institutional framework to use gender equality and women’s empowerment for sustainable socio-economic development.

Kabera referring to the above achievements gave an example of current figures as per last year, women’s participation stands at 64 per cent   in parliament, 38 per cent in senate, 39.4 per cent in cabinet, 43 per cent in districts council, 34.5 per cent in Gacaca courts and 43 per cent in judiciary.

He also said that banks savings by women increased from 29 per cent in 2008 to over 47 per cent; female enrollment in saving and Credit cooperatives (SACCOs) increased to 46 per cent while access to credit increased to about 39 per cent.
