Football Kenya Federation made a U-turn and shifted the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup matches that were to be played at the Kisumu County Stadium to Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos over what it terms as ‘political situation’.
FKF’s Communications and Public Relations Manager Barry Otieno is quoted to have said: “In light of the political situation in the country at the moment there have been concerns from visiting teams to play in Kisumu.
“Machakos will host all Group A matches while Kakamega will host Group B matches respectively. Later on, we shall have to decide on the venues for the semi, third play-offs as well as finales,” He said
Originally, Kenyatta stadium was named as one of the three host venues, Moi Stadium in Kisumu will have Machakos County replacing.
Rwanda will face off against hosts Kenya in the opening fixture on December 3 before battling Libya (Guests) on December 7 and concluding the group stage action against Tanzania on December 9.
Amavubi has won the regional football competition once in 1999, when the faced off Kenya 3-1 in the finals at Amahoro Remera Stadium, two years ago they lost to Uganda Cranes in the final last held in Ethiopia.
