Second Division Women’s League Launched in the Northern Province

The Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) has officially launched the Second Division Women’s Football League, with the opening ceremony held in Rulindo District, Northern Province.

Following a long-awaited start, the league was inaugurated on Saturday, November 2, in Rulindo, at the venue known as “Kwa Sina Gérard,” through FERWAFA’s Women’s Football Development Commission. In the opening match, Freedom WFC defeated Sina Gérard WFC with a score of 1-0. The game was attended by officials, including FERWAFA’s Women’s Football Development Commissioner Munyankaka Ancille, and the Commissioner for Competitions, Turatsinze Amani [Ntsinzi].

At the end of the first day, Kayonza WFC led Group A in the Eastern Province with three points and a goal difference of four, while Ndabuc WFC topped Group B with three points and a goal difference of ten. In Kigali, Umuri WFC led Group A with three points and a goal difference of two, while AS Kabuye led Group B with three points and a goal difference of four. In the Northern Province, Tiger WFC led the standings with three points and a goal difference of two, while Ejo Heza WFC topped the Western Province standings with one point.

To secure promotion to the First Division, two teams from this league will advance, making a total of 12 teams. These teams will meet with Ferwafa competition officials to outline how the playoffs will be conducted to determine the final two teams promoted.

This league format aims to provide more game time for the female players, allowing them to gain experience while also being financially manageable for the league organizers.
