Nyamasheke: A young man arrested for sexually abusing a cow

A young man named Ndikumana Enock from Gihombo Sector in Nyamasheke District has been arrested after being caught sexually abusing a neighbor’s cow.

Reports indicate that Ndikumana, who lives in Nyagahinga Village, Gitwa Cell, took advantage of the cow owner’s absence and engaged in the act.

One of the sources who shared the information with Imvaho Nshya revealed that Ndikumana found the cow in its shed. When he was caught, he immediately confessed in front of a crowd of residents and local leaders that he had committed the act.

The source stated, “He found the cow in its shed, which was built only from wooden poles and had no walls. He began touching it, and the cow stayed calm and quiet, which encouraged him to proceed, as two women who first saw him reported.”

It is said that Ndikumana had taken off his pants and laid them in the shed while engaging in this disgraceful act, which lasted for about 30 minutes. According to the woman who raised the alarm, the cow remained calm throughout, showing no signs of distress.

The residents mentioned that when they attempted to stop the young man, he ignored them and continued his actions without fear.

One resident said, “He told us that he had a desire for sexual activity but couldn’t find a girl right away. Besides, any girl he could find would ask for money, which he didn’t have, so he chose the cow, not knowing that someone would pass by and catch him.”

Denys Ntibazirikana, the Executive Secretary of Gitwa Cell, confirmed to Imvaho Nshya that the young man openly admitted to the crime without hesitation.

“He confessed without hesitation that he had sexually abused the cow, and the women who reported it were not lying. They found him in the act, and he refused to stop even after they saw him. However, he did not explain what drove him to do it. When we asked, he stayed silent. That’s when the residents escorted him to the RIB (Rwanda Investigation Bureau) station in Gihombo, where he is now detained. Further investigations will reveal more details,” Ntibazirikana explained.

The Executive Secretary mentioned that this was the first time such an incident had occurred in the cell he leads, as they had only heard of similar cases happening elsewhere.

He called for the young man to undergo a medical examination to determine if he has any mental health issues or other specific conditions, as residents claim he might be unwell, though no doctor has yet confirmed this.

Ntibazirikana also urged residents to build stronger livestock sheds with proper walls and secure doors to protect their animals from abuse or theft.

Currently, Ndikumana Enock is detained at the RIB station in Gihombo, Nyamasheke District.
