Paper Crown Rwanda Launches the Community of Feminist Practice during 16 Days of Activism

Paper Crown Rwanda launched on December 6, 2023, “The Community of Feminist Practice,” which is a groundbreaking initiative to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing among thought leaders, gender practitioners, and feminist activists in Rwanda.

This project, unveiled during the 16 Days of Activism, is a significant step toward achieving gender equality and eradicating Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in the country. As part of this year’s 16 Days of Activism campaign, Paper Crown is introducing Community of Feminist Practice to partners and stakeholders, positioning it as a pioneering initiative to accelerate efforts by women’s movements, feminist activists, and civil society organizations in Rwanda to combat GBV.

The Community of Feminist Practice will play a vital role in generating evidence on the lived experiences of women and girls at the grassroots level, informing programs and policies.

In collaboration with existing gender equality platforms, especially advocacy groups, Community of Feminist Practice will share resources, and expertise, and build solidarity.

Gisele Umutoniwase, Paper Crown Executive Director, stated, “Community of Feminist Practice will contribute to building a stronger women’s movement in Rwanda by identifying passionate and capable gender practitioners and feminist activists, creating opportunities for knowledge sharing, and fostering collective action.”

The Community of Feminist Practice will serve as a dynamic learning hub, providing resources for gender practitioners to enhance their programming and facilitating regular feminist dialogues for collaboration and knowledge sharing.

Fidele Rutayisire, Executive Director, RWAMREC (Rwanda Men Resource Center) emphasized, “A community of feminist practice offers a supportive environment for men’s engagement groups to collaborate with feminists, promoting healthy masculinity, challenging harmful gender norms, and advocating for gender equality.”

The Community of Feminist Practice will lead informative sessions, focusing on building a stronger women’s movement and fostering collective action.

Bridget Rhinehart – Head of the office – Kvinna till Kvinna, expressed excitement, stating, “Kvinna till Kvinna is thrilled to support the feminist community of practice in Rwanda. Having a space to consolidate and reflect will promote new insights and innovative approaches for lasting social change in the lives of women, men, girls, and boys.”

This launch marks a significant milestone in Rwanda’s commitment to gender equality and the fight against GBV, as the Community of Feminist Practice takes center stage in driving positive change and fostering a more inclusive and equitable society.

The Kvinna till Kvinna Foundation has defended women’s rights since 1993, working in areas affected by war and conflict to strengthen the influence and power of all women.
