Huye: More 70 needy citizens benefit from ANOTHER HAND support

Seventy-six (76) vulnerable people from different cells of Simbi and Mbazi sectors in Huye District received various donations including small livestock, food commodities, sanitary and scholastic materials from ANOTHER HAND (AH)Organization.

The organization whose mission is to support sick hopeless people in hospitals, orphans, street children and people with disabilities has on Monday, February 20^th, 2023, managed to handover different gifts ranging from goats, pigs and chickens to help them solve socio-economic related problems.

The ceremony took place at Kabusanza playground, located in Kabusanza cell, Simbi sector in Huye district. Among other supports, provided, food stuffs (maize flour), soaps, notebooks and pens were distributed.

Speaking during the event, Jean Claude Uwizeyimana, Founder and Executive Director of ANOTHER HAND Organization said that they collected funds from the members over the last 9 months, and in collaboration with local authorities, selected the most vulnerable who were visited and trained on how to improve livelihoods starting from a single small livestock.

“Today, ANOTHER HAND is pleased to share with needy people, we thought of lending a second hand to them because we realized that their livelihoods is very critical in terms of wealth and other living capacities, we have supported 76 but we have many who need our hand,” Uwizeyimana said.

Every citizen has got two small chickens to raise and get eggs at home in order to supplement their nutrition, two pigs and two goats were given to four groups of poor people who were urged to grow them with a pledge to give back to their colleagues once they reproduce.

They were also advised to always work together and strength one another.

“We need you to grow these small livestock and you will get money to supplement your savings in your groups at the village level,” Uwizeyimana told beneficiaries.

He commended the efforts of the local authorities who managed to help the organization to bring the action to life and to celebrate it, requesting them to be good ambassadors in calling other civil society organizations to partner with ANOTHER HAND to lift needy population from poverty line.

Odette Ingabire, the representative of the four groups of vulnerable citizens who were supported at the first session, expressed joy and grateful heart, pledging that the donations will help them to improve livelihoods.

“We are happy for the supports, ANOTHER HAND use to give us pieces of advice beyond the physical materials, today we have got the small livestock, we will eat eggs and boost nutrition, our dream with ANOTHER HAND support is to progress and have good social-economic life status,” she said.

Speaking on behalf of the local authority, Jean Pierre Niyitegeka, the in charge of sector Finance and Administration at Simbi, appreciated the initiative of ANOTHER HAND Organization to think and realize the action of supporting vulnerable citizens.

He urged beneficiaries to use well the second hand they get so that it plays a significant role in their future development.

“I wish this hand next time, should be an asset to help you embrace wealth. You have got pigs, goats and chickens, you should not eat them, but grow them and graduate from poverty and help your colleagues who also need to raise small cattle but lacking capacity,” Niyitegeka told beneficiaries.
