Setting the record straight about Green and Clean energy

Green energy is any form of energy that is generated from natural resources such as sunlight, wind or water.

Each of these technologies works in different ways such as taking power from the sun (as is with solar panels), using wind turbines or the flow of water to generate energy.

While most green energy sources are renewable, sustainable and in fact recommendable, not all of them are seen as clean.

What is the difference?

In order to be deemed clean energy, a resource should not produce pollution. It means producing power without having negative environmental impacts.

A lot of clean energy is also renewable but the most important aspects are the environmental benefits as part of a bright global energy future.

While clean renewable resources preserve the world’s natural resources, they also reduce the risk of environmental disasters, such as fuel spills or the problems associated with natural gas leaks.

With fuel diversification, innovation has made it possible to create alternative reliable power supplies to enhance energy security in an attempt to ensure there is enough to meet the global demands.

Way forward?

Subsequently, a number of active players have emerged with different affordable energy solutions covering a variety of applications such as electricity generation and storage, cooking, cooling systems, to mention but a few.

“It is possible that the consumers are most likely able to pay for these equipments in small installments thus the Pay and Go arrangement,” Sun said.

Women; a mitigating factor

The story about clean renewable energy may never be complete without talking about gender. This is because most of its applications and related services greatly affect women especially in the African rural set up.

As we know, life literally depends on the ability to provide basic human needs for survival such as food.

Many cultures world over leave cooking as a prerogative of womenTraditionally, Solid fuel such as firewood, charcoal, bio mass, coal or dung has been an important energy source for cooking especially in Africa.

Lack of knowledge on modern energy cooking services has left many people lagging behind and this greatly affects women.

Victor Agandi, the General Manager, PayGo at Sun King, a renowned global solar powerhouse, explains that policies are in place to favor women to efficiently and effectively play their roles.

“There is a deliberate effort to put women at the forefront in fostering the adoption and expansion of clean renewable energy sector because they are a major component of our society. They have vital roles of taking care of the family,” he said.

Sun King operates in over 40 countries worldwide with 11 in Africa. 40% of all its agents in Africa are women.
