Ignorance of Reading Delays Development ‒ Mutesi

Rwandan Female Education Investor Gasana Mutesi calls Rwandans to read and share knowledge from books as it helps to advance development.

Currently, through Book Talk Programme, Mutesi used to host youth and adults every Thursday evening in his Bookshop at Kimironko Sector, Gasabo District to share knowledge gained from books.

The book talk initiative gathers together adults to share knowledge from different topics of books. Arise Education has also a platform for children where they meet and read and write books, which increase their knowledge capacity to understand other lessons in class.

The books they used to read together emphasize on History, Development and go with Rwandan values to build a descent society.

“We wanted to help adults to strengthen the culture of reading so that they gain knowledge. Books are sources of knowledge and many other assets in everyday life. It is a big barrier of development for someone who does not read,” Mutesi noted.

The programme started last year in 2018 and is giving results towards changing mindset of people who participate in book talk.

“Many people including students from Universities say they have got huge impact in reading. One of the students who used to come here shared his story about how he used to fear Reading books from school library, but now he likes reading and it has improved his knowledge,” Mutesi said.
