A woman has been allegedly killed by her husband in a domestic incident that occurred in Byimana Sector, Ntenyo Cell, Kavumu Village.
The incident took place on May 31, 2026, when the suspect is reported to have fatally attacked his 41-year-old wife, Niyonsenga Claudine, using a wooden club to strike her on the head.
According to local residents who spoke to TV1, the attack did not come as a surprise, as the man had previously threatened to kill his wife and had reportedly even spoken openly about the weapon used in the attack.
“He had bought the wooden club and kept telling people he would kill her, and in the end he carried it out,” one resident said. “We want him brought before the public so we can all witness the trial and testify against him.”
The Executive Secretary of Byimana Sector, Uwamwiza Jean d’Arc, said the couple had long been experiencing domestic conflicts, mainly linked to alcohol abuse. She added that authorities had previously intervened and advised the couple to separate to prevent further escalation.
“They were counseled, but it did not work. They were advised to separate,” she said.
Authorities confirmed that the suspect has been arrested and is currently being held at the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) station in Byimana Sector.
The deceased leaves behind three children she had with the suspect.
