South: farmers laud efforts of Huye feeds factory to improve livestock production
By Michel Nkurunziza.
Evariste Munyemana, a farmer from Mbazi sector in Huye District used to experience hurdles in feeding his cows due to lack of enough factories producing animal feeds in his area.
Sometimes it could take him a long time to go in town bring some and the prices were quite very high.
After hearing from good news that a new ‘Huye Feeds Factory is already operational and serves quality and affordable animal feeds, the farmer is no longer struggling to feed his cows.

“I have 6 cows and the way I used to feed them was somehow complicated. From my home to the town there is a long journey and prices there are high. This factory helped all farmers in my location to find easily animal feeds and we can afford to pay. My cows are now healthy,” Munyemana said.
Pierre Nagaboyimana, veterinary technician and marketing officer of Huye feeds factory told the inspirer that the factory was established to respond to the farmers’ challenged to access to timely and quality affordable animal feeds.

“Farmers used to struggle to find easily animal feeds and prices of the then factories were on high. We produce chicken feeds, fish feeds in different categories depending on the proteins a fish needs, we produce pig’s feeds and cow feeds and our prices are affordable,” he said.
The factory has been participating to the 14th Rwanda Agrishow that hs been taking place in Gasabo-Mulindi since June 19th.
The factory has the capacity to produce between 100 to 200 tons per day but due to the farmers needs we produce 20 tons.
Huye feeds factory is located in Sovu Cell, Huye Sector, Huye District in Southern Province and was built on Korean support and handed to MINAGRI as Rwandan donation to help farmers access timely and affordable animal feeds as it was realized that farmers struggled to feed cattle.
