Rwandan Embassy in Senegal donates 30 million RWF to support school feeding program

The Rwandan community in Senegal, Mali, Gambia, and Guinea-Bissau has contributed 30 million Rwandan Francs (RWF) to the Ministry of Education (MINEDUC) to support the ‘Dusangire Lunch’ school feeding program. The donation will benefit 10,000 children, ensuring they receive nutritious meals while continuing their education.

The funds were handed over by Jacqueline Uwamwiza, Vice President of the Association of Rwandans in Senegal, to MINEDUC officials, including Divine Uwineza, Head of the Ministry’s Children’s Nutrition Department. Uwamwiza was joined by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ representative for Rwandans living abroad and a staff member of the Rwandan Embassy in Senegal.

Speaking at the handover, Uwineza expressed her appreciation to Rwandans living across the region for their commitment to supporting the program. She also highlighted the origins of Dusangire Lunch and its ongoing impact in providing school meals to children.

Launched in 2019, Dusangire Lunch encourages contributions from government employees, the private sector, civil society, Rwandans living abroad, and the wider Rwandan community. Its goal is to provide children with meals at school, enabling them to continue their studies safely and successfully.

According to MINEDUC, the program has now reached over four million children nationwide, significantly improving school attendance and helping students engage in lessons, particularly those held after 12:00 PM.

The Rwandan Embassy in Senegal, which also covers Rwanda’s interests in Gambia, Mali, Cape Verde, and Guinea-Bissau, continues to work closely with Rwandans in these countries, encouraging participation in national programs and contributing to Rwanda’s development.
