Rwanda unveils EV charging station for electric motorcycles

Rwanda has launched the first EV charging station for electric motorcycles in Africa.

It is an initiative aiming at reduction of vehicular emissions and support transport system with an emphasis on low-carbon options for residents and commuter.

The first electric charging station is owned by Safi Universal Link Ltd that provides e-solutions to the mobility sector.

“The use of electric mobility in Rwanda will reduced oil dependency, air pollution, growth of greenhouse gases from the transport sector and to benefit from efficient transport solutions that support green growth and innovation, “said Coletha Ruhamya the Director General of Rwanda Environment Management Authority.

The station will be a taxi or ride sharing where users will choose the electric motorbikes by using a safi app, specify the time for their pickup and their destination, given price estimation for their ride and payments made via a Go card.
