Rwanda: Market prices rise by 17.2%

Market prices in Rwanda rose by 17.2% in September 2026 compared with the same month in 2025, according to the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR). The annual inflation rate stood at 15.7% in August 2026.

The increase in September was mainly driven by a 20.9% rise in prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages, while housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels rose by 18.3%.

Transport prices increased by 22.4%, while those of restaurants and accommodation services rose by 18.9%.

Compared with August 2026, market prices increased by 2.7% in September, largely due to a 5.3% rise in food and non-alcoholic beverage prices.

Meanwhile, prices excluding food and energy products rose by 11.4% in September 2026 compared with the same month in 2025.
