Ruhango: Three Suspects Arrested for Robbery and Sexual Assault of 58-Year-Old Woman

Police in Ruhango District have arrested three young men suspected of robbing and sexually assaulting a 58-year-old woman.

The woman, who is seeking assistance, told TV1 that she was forced into sexual intercourse by one of the robbers, who had two accomplices.

The incident reportedly took place on the night of November 11, 2024, in Byemveni Village, Gisanga Cell, Mbuye Sector.

Southern Province Police spokesperson, SP Emmanuel Habiyaremye, confirmed to UMUSEKE that the three young men suspected of the crime were arrested after assaulting the woman.

According to the police, the suspects, aged 20, 23, and 31, stole the woman’s mattress, clothing, and shoes from her home.

The woman is requesting help, stating that nearly all of her possessions were taken.

SP Emmanuel Habiyaremye told UMUSEKE, “All the suspects are detained at Byimana Police Station.”

The police urge the public to report individuals with suspicious behavior, including those involved in using or distributing illegal substances, as these are major contributors to criminal acts.

The Southern Province Police spokesperson also warned those who threaten public safety to stop, noting that the police are vigilant and evading them is impossible.
