Prosecutors request 30-day remand for Djihad and other  suspects

On December 11, 2025, the Kicukiro Primary Court held a hearing for Uzabakiriho Cyprien (Djihad), Ishimwe François Xavier, and Kwizera Nestor (Pappy Nestor), who stand accused of circulating explicit videos allegedly involving artist Yampano.

The Prosecution requested that the suspects be placed under 30 days of provisional detention, citing evidence from a Cybercrime report linking them to WhatsApp groups where the explicit videos were shared. Djihad was identified as the administrator of a WhatsApp group with nearly 1,000 members, some of whom had access to the explicit content. Ishimwe and Kwizera were implicated in forwarding or receiving these videos.

Defense lawyers challenged the prosecution’s case, arguing that there are inconsistencies in the evidence and emphasizing that none of the accused intentionally published the videos. They maintained that Djihad only produced commentary discouraging the sharing of explicit content and suggested that the leak could have originated from Yampano or members of his management team. Furthermore, the defense argued that private sharing does not equate to public distribution.

The Prosecution, however, insisted that Djihad posted the videos on his WhatsApp Status, making them visible to all his contacts. They also cited witness testimony supporting this claim.

The court is expected to decide whether the suspects will remain in custody while investigations continue. If found guilty, the accused face more than two years in prison for distributing sexually explicit material.
