President Kagame welcomes Central African Republic’s Touadéra for bilateral talks

President Paul Kagame has received his Central African Republic counterpart, Faustin-Archange Touadéra, who is in Rwanda for a two-day working visit focused on strengthening cooperation between the two nations.

The meeting took place on Sunday evening, November 23, 2025, at Village Urugwiro, where the two leaders held talks centered on existing bilateral relations and opportunities to deepen collaboration across sectors that benefit citizens of both countries, according to the Office of the President.

Discussions highlighted the longstanding partnership between Rwanda and the Central African Republic (CAR), particularly in peace and security. Rwanda has deployed troops to CAR under the United Nations peacekeeping mission since 2014, alongside additional forces under a bilateral cooperation agreement between the two countries.

Upon his arrival in Kigali on Sunday, President Touadéra was welcomed at Kigali International Airport by Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Dr. Vincent Biruta.

Rwanda’s peace support in car

Rwanda and the Central African Republic enjoy a strong diplomatic relationship rooted in peacekeeping efforts and regional stability. Rwandan military and police contingents have played a key role in restoring peace and protecting civilians in CAR, especially in the capital Bangui.

Rwanda first deployed troops to CAR in early 2014 to support peace efforts following instability caused by the Séléka armed coalition, which had attempted to topple the government.

Beyond security protection for government officials and citizens, the Rwandan contingent supports training and professionalization of CAR’s armed forces. In March 2025, the third cohort of 438 Central African soldiers completed training conducted by Rwandan Defense Forces.

Rwandan peacekeepers also undertake community development initiatives, including public health services, environmental clean-up campaigns, as well as providing school materials to students and other social support activities.
