President Paul Kagame arrived in Cairo on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, for an official visit to Egypt.

He was welcomed by President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi at the Al-Ittihadiya Presidential Palace, where the two leaders held private talks.

A broader meeting between Rwandan and Egyptian delegations will follow, focusing on strengthening bilateral cooperation.

Rwanda and Egypt have existing agreements in areas including ICT, cultural heritage, youth and sports, diplomatic training, industrial development, trade, agriculture, education, and health. These were signed during President Kagame’s 2022 visit to Egypt.

The two countries enjoy longstanding ties dating back to the 1970s, with the first Joint Permanent Commission for Cooperation established in 1989.

Rwanda is represented in Egypt by Ambassador CG Dan Munyuza, while Egypt’s Ambassador Nermine El Zawahry serves in Kigali.
