MAFUBO International Federation in Drive to support vulnerable girls and women
By Elias Hakizimana.
Women grouped in MAFUBO International Federation that also works in Rwanda since 2014 have committed to support vulnerable girls and women.
The word ‘Mafubo’ which is a Kinyarwanda name given to some Rwandan girls and women is originated from an act of love one woman did for her colleague who was in dilemma in 1990s according to Dr.Hon.Monique Mujawamariya, the founder and President of MAFUBO International Federation.

“From the Rwandan culture, the word Mafubo has become a name with an international destiny; easy to write, read and pronounce, Mafubo means the confidante with a global connotation to designate solidarity between women.” Mujawamariya said.

She added that Mafubo designates a woman who has a great deal of compassion for the other; she is the one who forgets herself to support and especially to spare the other, shame, humiliation and degradation.
Mujawamariya was speaking during a press conference in Kigali on November 25, 2021, Mujawamariya said that the main activities of this organization is to strive for the wellbeing of vulnerable teen mothers and women who face poverty.
“Let us stand up as women grouped in MAFUBO to help those needy women and girls.” She said.
Ruth Tuyisenge, the President of MAFUBO International Federation in Rwanda said: “We first of all give them time and hear from them in order to know how we can help them change mindset through training where we hire psychologists to recapture their hope that they have human value and that they can work and achieve many things as well.”
Tuyisenge said that they intervene in the orientation of talents of beneficiaries to enable them chose what they can and later give them financial startups to start income generating activities.

Some of the talents or activities beneficiaries possess, she said, include hair dressing and sewing.
The Mafubo International Federation fights extreme poverty, insecurity and the various forms of violence against women in Africa and elsewhere. Mafubo aims to ensure that girls from disadvantaged backgrounds are guaranteed conditions for academic success.
Established in more than 40 countries, the federation helps women under the same banner, carrying the same dreams to achieve the same goals.
