The Chief Executive Officer of Rwanda’s Capital Market Authority (CMA), Thapelo Tsheole, has highlighted the growing strength and potential of Rwanda’s capital market, noting that it continues to deliver tangible benefits by enabling private sector players to raise funds for business expansion.
Speaking at the Rwanda Country Summit—a session held as part of the AFSIC – Investing in Africa 2025 conference in London, United Kingdom—Tsheole showcased the investment opportunities available through Rwanda’s capital market. The summit was organized in collaboration with the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) and the Kigali International Financial Centre (KIFC).
Tsheole emphasized that Rwanda has positioned itself as a regional hub for investment, backed by sound governance, a stable macroeconomic environment, and investor-friendly legal frameworks.
The performance of Rwanda’s capital market in 2025 has been remarkable, with private-sector bond issuances raising RWF 46 billion. Overall, the bond market mobilized RWF 246 billion, with a subscription rate of 293%, reflecting strong investor appetite and confidence in the market.
He also noted a sharp rise in equity market activity, with funds raised through private listings climbing to RWF 63.5 billion in 2025—up from RWF 4.7 billion the previous year. The volume of traded shares increased from 22.4 million in 2024 to 425.2 million in 2025.
The total bond turnover, combining both government and corporate bonds, reached RWF 148.5 billion, marking a 167% increase compared to 2024.
Tsheole commended ongoing efforts to strengthen Rwanda’s financial regulatory framework and promote investor awareness, saying these initiatives are helping more individuals and institutions understand and participate in the country’s capital market opportunities.
