By The Inspirer.

On the night of March 16, 2024, in Rushikiri Village, Murehe Cell, Rukoma Sector, Kamonyi District, Fabien Niyonsenga, aged 26, was fatally stabbed in a fight over a girl.

Involved in the altercation were Hatangimana Fidèle, 28, and Dushimimana Emmanuel, 19. They are currently in police custody.

Reports indicate that the altercation erupted between the two men over a girl they both had romantic interests in.

Fabien Niyonsenga was rushed to Rukoma Health Center but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The authorities attempted to transfer him to Remera Rukoma Hospital, but unfortunately, it was too late.

The Mayor of Kamonyi District, Dr. Nahayo Sylvere, confirmed the incident to IGIHE, describing it as a tragic loss of life due to violence.

According to information obtained by IGIHE, Niyonsenga Fabien was originally from Ngororero District and had a wife, which makes the situation even more tragic considering legal implications, as they had been married for less than five months.

Such tragic incidents are unfortunately not isolated occurrences in Kamonyi District. On January 8, 2024, another incident resulted in the death of 20-year-old Emmanuel Kwibuka, who was reported to have been stabbed in Nyagacyamu village, Muganza cell, Runda sector.

Additionally, in April 2021, a 23-year-old man was stabbed in the neck in Gaforongo village, Mwiture cell, Rukoma sector.
