Gorilla Nuts Ltd: Rwanda’s Homegrown Champion in Macadamia Excellence

By Elias Hakizimana | The Inspirer.

At the heart of the 28th Rwanda International Trade Fair (RITF 2025), one booth is drawing attention for its natural aroma, nutritional promise, and proudly Rwandan story—Gorilla Nuts Ltd, a fast-growing agro-processing company redefining how we snack and nourish ourselves with one of the world’s most valuable superfoods: macadamia nuts.

Speaking to The Inspirer during the fair, Eli Patience Burasa, Assistant Sales Manager at Gorilla Nuts Ltd, highlighted the company’s mission: “We are here not just to sell, but to educate people about the health benefits of macadamia, introduce our cosmetic oil products, and share our journey as a proudly Rwandan brand.”

What Gorilla Nuts Offers

From roasted macadamia to raw organic varieties, Gorilla Nuts Ltd offers an array of high-quality, locally produced nuts grown on their farms in Rwamagana District, Eastern Province. Their offerings also include macadamia oil-based cosmetics, especially tailored for skincare and haircare—adding value to every harvested nut.

The company sells its products through multiple supermarkets across Kigali and upcountry, and even serves international markets.

“We farm and harvest our own macadamia nuts. That way, we ensure the highest quality and traceability,” Burasa explains.

“We also work with local farmers, encouraging youth and communities to grow macadamia trees—an investment that benefits both the environment and their incomes.”

Affordable, Healthy, and Delicious

Available in different packages—250g, 500g, and 1kg—Gorilla Nuts’ products are priced to be accessible:

  • Roasted macadamia: RWF 20,000/kg
  • Raw organic macadamia: RWF 18,000/kg

Discounts are available for bulk orders above 5kg, making them a favorite for retailers and health-conscious consumers alike.

Beyond their buttery flavor and satisfying crunch, macadamia nuts are rich in healthy fats, known to support heart health, regulate blood pressure, and help prevent diabetes. “We want Rwandans to replace less healthy snacks with macadamia. It’s a lifestyle change,” Burasa adds.

A Vision Rooted in Community and Sustainability

Unlike eucalyptus trees that deplete the soil, macadamia trees offer long-term harvests, strong stems for environmental protection, and co-exist with other crops. Gorilla Nuts Ltd advocates for sustainable farming and promotes tree planting among youth as a tool for future prosperity.

“We’re inspiring the next generation to farm smarter. Macadamia trees can last decades—and that’s economic security,” says Burasa.
