Gasabo: What vaccinated citizens say about the hesitant citizens
By Jean Claude Kubwimana.
Despite some residents’ will to uptake Covid-19 vaccine, some residents still have a different mindset as they evade the vaccination programme.
Clementine Nyirabarayobwa, a tailor who works from Rugando cell, Kimihurura Sector in Gasabo District says that she has voluntarily taken two doses of the vaccine.
“Myself, voluntarily, I was vaccinated after realizing its importance on our health as we were experiencing the pandemic effects on us. Nobody forced me to be vaccinated,” She told The Inspirer in an interview.
The lady shared this information while many people still have different beliefs about the vaccine of Covid-19, saying it endangers lives posing negative effects to health with side effects.
Nyirabarayobwa explained that people do not have the same mindset and are not adapting to things the same way.
“I advise people to understand the role of the vaccine, Covid-19 hits people but when they are vaccinated the risks are reduced. Myself, I have hope that even when I am infected, my life cannot be endangered because I have already got two doses,” She noted.
Rina Uwamahoro, another tailor also working in Kimihurura said that she has received the first dose of the vaccine and is waiting for the date to get the second dose.
As she explained the role of the vaccine, she said that someone who is vaccinated cannot be killed by the pandemic.
“Someone who is not vaccinated can be easily infected and he/she can die sometimes. When you are vaccinated the first time, you feel some side effects like body weakness, high body temperature and vertigo but this ends the following day. I think it is normal.” she says.
Emelienne Umugwaneza, another citizen who works from Kimihurura as a tailor, said that she has got two doses of Covid-19 vaccine.
“I have a hope that my health will not be affected by the pandemic, I know the vaccine is of great importance.” she said.
Jean Bosco Musabyimana, a citizen from Gasange village, Rugando cell in Kimihurura sector of Gasabo district says he has one dose of the vaccine and he understands the role of being vaccinated.
“All I can tell my peers is to reject rumors, get rid of fear and accept to be vaccinated,” He advises others.
Eric Ndayishimiye, a citizen of Gatsata sector in Gasabo district says that everyone who has experienced covid-19 pandemic should understand the role of the vaccine.
“People can think of their interests in having the vaccine rather than thinking of the side effects,” He says.
Didier Bizimana is another citizen of Gatsata sector who got two doses of the vaccine after being sensitized by local authorities.
“We decided to willingly go to be vaccinated after having clear explanations about the importance of the vaccine. People say that there are dangerous side effects including infertility and body transformation but I have not faced any among those ones,” He said.
Pauline Umwali, the District Executive Administrator of Gasabo district said that citizens participated in voluntary vaccination at over 90 percent and that there are more vaccines at various health centres.
“We call up on media sensitization to inform citizens that vaccines are available for those who are not yet vaccinated.” She noted.
