Gasabo-Bumbogo: Love With Actions renovates a house for the abandoned poor

A couple of years ago, Pelagie Nyiramana, a mother of five children from Rukoma village, Mvuzo cell, Bumbogo sector in Gasabo district was abandoned by her husband and experienced a tough life in risky house that could endanger their lives.

The widow who finds daily survival from farms of neighbours uses the less she earns after digging to buy food for children as she does not have arable land.

Fortunately, Love With Actions (LWA) Organization that operates in the area has learnt through the painful life the widow is living and; with few capacity renovated her old and risky house, built a new kitchen and a toilet which brought smile to Nyiramana.

In partnership with Bumbogo Sector Authorities, the new house with sitting chairs and a table, a mattress as well as some food commodities were handed over to this needy widow on August 31, 2021.

With much appreciation of the support, Nyiramana told The Inspirer that it is a surprise on one part, but at another hand is God’s solution as she has been dreaming of a day of happiness in her life after being abandoned by her husband who married another wife.

“My husband abandoned me with five children, I was a poor with an old-two-room house that could not safely accommodate me with my children, I could not be happy while struggling to feed children by digging the farms of neighbours. I thank Love With Actions Organization, I remember the day its founder Gilbert visited me, he decided to help me live in a conducive house, I am happy that my children will be staying safe when I go to look for part time jobs.” Nyiramana said.

She was given a new house with three rooms plus a saloon, a kitchen, bathroom and a toilet worth Rwf1,5 million after being renovated.

Nyiramana is currently in the second category of Ubudehe. She earns Rwf1,000 as a reward to dig in farms of her neighbours. “I have one very small arable land, reason why I must look for part time jobs to feed my children.” She notes.  

Gilbert Kubwimana, Founder and Executive Director of Love With Actions said that they initiated this activity to comply with the government’s human security responses to the community’s issues.

“Within the community development activities, Love With Actions looks on helping poor people beyond catering for children with disabilities and their parents, we partner with Local Government Authorities, this widow, Nyiramana is among the people who used to help us to mobilize people to strive for the rights and wellbeing of children with disabilities.” Kubwimana said.

Josiane Umurerwa, the in charge of Social Affairs in Bumbogo Sector welcomed the initiative, saying that they partner with Non-Government Organizations to promote welfare of the needy through different activities.

“We owe much appreciation to this organization, we spent some days to renovate the house of this citizen, we currently have same activities to build and renovate risky houses for some citizens, today we thank this organization that invested and fully participated in this activity.” Umurerwa said.
