Former Rayon President Muvunyi with fellow tycoons have been arrested

The Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) has arrested four tycoons, including Paul Muvunyi, a former Rayon Sports president and one of the big billionaires in the country.

Muvunyi and his colleagues have been jailed on charges of using forged documents. Apart from Muvunyi, Rtd Col Eugène Ruzibiza, former Commander of RDF in Karongi District was also detained. Ruzibiza was the Commander of the 307th Brigade that served in the Western Province in 2015.

The Executive Secretary of Gasura Cell in Karongi District, Gérald Niyongamije and a resident called Félicien Kayigema were also detained.

Dr. Thierry B. Murangira, acting RIB spokesperson told IGIHE about the arrest of these men.

“These men were arrested on December 24, 2020. The crime is to use forged documents.”  Murangira said.

Murangira refrained from explaining the nature of the crime to which the men are being arrested, saying it is still under investigation.

Paul Muvunyi is a hotelier business person. In Karongi District, where one of the detainees is a leader, he has a big hotel called Kivu Safari Lodge in Gishyita Sector. The hotel was launched in 2016 with a cost of Rwf1.2 billion.
