Former Prime Minister of Rwanda Habumuremyi arrested

Dr. Pierre Damien Habumuremyi, former Prime Minister of Rwanda and Prof Egide Karuranga, the vice chancellor of Kibungo University have been arrested since two days ago over various crimes they did on behalf of the schools they were leading.

Habumuremyi is the founder of Christian University of Rwanda which is located in Town (St Paul), he was arrested on Friday, suspected of two crimes namely delivery of unsecured bank cheque and lack of disloyalty.

Prof. Egide Karuranga was the vice chancellor of Kibungo University which was recently closed. He was arrested over misusing public properties and relationship-based crime.

The spokesperson of Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) Dominique Bahorera in the conversation with IGIHE.COM confirmed the arrest of the two suspects who were arrested on Friday.

“All the crimes of which they are suspect were committed in the interests of the schools they were leading, one as the owner, another as the vice chancellor.” Bahorera said.

Bahorera did not reveal further about the arrest of these suspects, saying that there are still under investigation process and that their case will be handed to the prosecution when the investigation is over.
