(FEATURED): Save Generations Organization launched a campaign On Covid-19 Prevention

On 21st, 22nd, 28th and 29th-July-2020, Save Generations Organization a Non-Governmental Organization which basically aims for the development of a child, youth and women, funded by an international organization called Kvinna Till Kvinna conducted awareness campaign activities on covid19 prevention among adolescent girls and boys project right holder’s and their families hence providing them with covid19 basic preventive hygiene materials totaling to 1216 face masks and 240 bar soaps. This activity took place in the sectors of Rusororo and Ndera in the city of Kigali, Gasabo district, Ngamba and Rukoma sectors in Kamonyi district, southern province.

Adolescent girls, boys and parents who attended the covid19 prevention awareness campaign expressed different problems they have been facing of lack of enough information and supportive materials for covid19 prevention. Save Generations Organization conducted this awareness activity to respectively emphasize on the covid19 preventive measures and support to its right holders and their families. This awareness on covid19 prevention including measures in place like washing hands regularly hence maintaining a proper and regular body hygiene and wearing face masks in a proper way.

Hygiene materials given to them for covid19 prevention will help them protect themselves and others from the coronavirus hence not sharing one face mask in the family as expressed by a parent; ‘’Because of poverty these days, we were sharing one mask in the whole family therefore we do really thank these people for providing us with these materials which are going to help us in protection of covid19’’. NIYONAMBAZA Marie, a parent and resident in Ngamba sector, kamonyi district said.

NYIRANEZA Emelance, a S6 student at GS Ngamba said, ‘’Covid19 has made our families poor to an extent of not getting enough support to buy hygiene materials for protection, we are very much happy to have been given these materials which will help us for days and we do emphasize other organizations to do the same as Save Generations Organization has done because people in rural areas have less support to afford these materials.’’

Save Generations Organization also provided mobile phones and other covi19 preventive hygiene materials to its focal persons in the above mentioned schools for following up those students hence find it easy to reach them hence a continued awareness on covid19 prevention to the families of the right holders’.

 ‘’ We appreciate the work done by Save Generations Organization to our citizens in Rukoma sector, these campaigns are crucially needed nowadays because Government authorities have to work hand in hand with CSOs and other stakeholders to combat the virus and continue protect the citizens, the materials given to the families have solved a problem of insufficient covid19 protective materials to the citizens, we really thank Save Generations Organization and encourage them to expand their activities do that  many citizens benefit from there good work’’, Nkurunziza Jean de Dieu, the Executive secretary, Rukoma sector in Kamonyi district.

‘’The materials we have been given will help us protect ourselves from covid19 because we were lacking them in our families, we knew that the masks are for elders, and we couldn’t protect ourselves as children, we had few face masks at home and getting soap was not easy, these materials will as well help us maintain a proper personal body hygiene in general.’’ Cyuzuzo Kevine, a P6 student at GS Kabuga catholic in Rusororo sector, Gasabo district.

The Executive Director of Save Generations Organization, Yvette NYINAWUMUNTU, explained that the main objective of this awareness campaign to the right holders and their families in the above mentioned sectors is to remind them to obey, respect and practice the measures put in place hence have clear information on the prevention of the Coronavirus to them and others.

‘’What has been done isn’t really enough, there is still much joint support and efforts needed most especially rural areas concerning Covid-19 prevention, therefore we call upon different CSOs and other agencies to cooperate with local government authorities so that we combat the spread of covid19’’, the Executive Director of Save Generations Organization added.
