Empowering Education: Technology Transforms G.S Kibungo School, Surrounding Rural Community

Teachers and residents of G.S Kibungo School in Bugesera District’s Ntarama sector, are celebrating the transformative influence of technology on education and community development.

A significant milestone was marked on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, as the Internet Society Rwanda, in partnership with Bugesera District, officially inaugurated a technology-equipped building at G.S Kibungo.

This initiative, initiated in April 2023, marks a pivotal step toward technological advancement. It promises comprehensive training sessions aimed at empowering teachers and community members with vital computer and internet communication skills, intending to positively impact the lives of Rwandans.

Safari Vedaste, a dedicated teacher trained in computer technology at G.S Kibungo School, articulated the substantial change brought about by technology in streamlining daily teaching tasks.

“The preparation of lessons was once a paper-intensive ordeal. Now, with access to computers and the internet, our lives have undergone a significant transformation. We remain committed to leveraging these tools for enhancing the quality of education,” he remarked.

Beathe Tuyambaze, Headteacher of G.S Kibungo acknowledged the school’s prior technological inadequacy and extended heartfelt appreciation to the Internet Society Rwanda and their partners for resolving this issue.

The equipment includes computers, internet access, and a well-stocked library catering to pre-school to third-grade students, enriching the learning environment.

Mfitumukiza Emmanuel, Chairperson of Internet Society Rwanda Chapter, urged the beneficiaries to take the support as more than infrastructure.

“Let’s focus on the practical outcomes enabled by this knowledge,” he emphasized, encouraging a productive application of these resources for a technology-driven lifestyle.

Gashumba Jacques, Bugesera District’s Director of Education, called upon teachers and residents to optimize this technology, ensuring its beneficial use and preservation within the school premises.

G.S Kibungo School, hosting approximately two thousand students undergoing 12-year basic education, aligns with Rwanda’s commitment to equip students for the technology-centric 21st-century economy.

Rwanda’s national development plan prioritizes technology integration in education, advocating for initiatives like ‘Smart Classrooms’ and widespread technology tools in schools, accompanied by curricula tailored to students’ capabilities.
