EG Honey Trading moves to improve honey quality and train beekeepers

Beekeeping is among the major vibrant business in Rwanda that besides adding value to honey produce, contributes to environment and ecosystem protection.

Oreste Iyamuremye, the Manager of EG Honey Trading Limited, a local company supported by Egyptians in value addition to honey produce and train beekeepers on best technologies to increase quality of the produce told The Inspirer that their target is to boost the quality of honey produce and increase the production so that the cost becomes affordable to everyone from everywhere in-and outside Rwanda.

“We train bee keepers to increase the produce and improves quality of honey, we also import materials and give to them. Our business first is to add value to honey produce and preserve ecosystem as bees contribute a lot to pollination of crops,” Iyamuremye said.

EG Honey Trading has so far in March trained beekeepers on how to preserve quality of honey and transform Apiculture as a profession that generates income and fights poverty among practitioners.

“Currently, we do not have big production but we sent some samples of honey in Arabic countries and they liked our honey, we are looking on how to increase the production,” he said.

Last season, the company trained 60 beekeepers countrywide, two from each district. They will train more in this season that will help them increase honey production.

The company also works with cooperatives and targets to involve the private sector.

“We want to produce honey so that everyone gets quality honey with affordable prices, we want link a client with a bee keeper,” Iyamuremye noted.

EG Honey participated to the recent 14^th Rwanda Agrishow and attracted many visitors according to Iyamuremye.

“We got many visitors and many of them thanked us, recommended us to increase the produce and reduce cost, we are going to increase produce and reduce cost because currently the production is still low,” he said.

EG Honey trading has its headquarters in Kigali city, Nyarugenge District in Muhima Sector.

The company started in March 2019 and has put in effort in adding value to honey production.

They call for citizens’ efforts to preserve bees by using pesticides that do not kill them.

“We first observe the beauty of packaging and affordability of honey for everyone, we have different bottles in sizes and cost, from Rwf 5,000 to Rwf 500, and we will soon introduce small packaging sizes of Rwf 100 and Rwf 300.

The company will also introduce other kinds of honey products in partnership with Egyptians.
