China donates surgical equipment to boost services at Masaka Hospital

The Chinese Embassy in Rwanda has donated surgical equipment worth Rwf 30 million to Masaka Hospital in Kicukiro District, in a move aimed at strengthening surgical capacity and improving healthcare delivery.

The equipment includes a modern hospital bed, surgical lights, and other essential supplies to support a range of medical procedures.

Officials from the Ministry of Health said the donation reflects continued cooperation between Rwanda and China in the health sector.

Dr. Oreste Tuganeyezu, Director General in charge of Clinical Services, noted that the support builds on existing partnerships, including infrastructure development and deployment of Chinese medical teams in Rwanda.

He said the equipment will enhance operating theatre capacity and contribute to improved patient care.

Masaka Hospital Director, Dr. Jean Damascene Hanyurwimfura, described the donation as a boost to ongoing efforts to deliver quality services, noting it complements existing resources and supports both local and visiting medical staff.

Chinese Ambassador to Rwanda, Gao Wenqi, said the donation underscores longstanding bilateral relations and China’s commitment to supporting Rwanda’s health sector.

Rwanda and China have maintained diplomatic ties for nearly four decades, with Chinese medical teams continuing to contribute to healthcare services across the country.
