BRD appoints a new Chief Executive Officer

By The Inspirer.

The Rwanda Development Bank (BRD) has appointed Stella Rusine Nteziryayo as its new Chief Executive Officer, succeeding Kampeta Pitchette Sayinzoga, who has completed his six-year term.

Ms. Nteziryayo, who previously served as a member of BRD’s Board of Directors, brings extensive experience in financial institution management and operations, credit supervision, and institutional economic development. She has also served at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning as Director General in charge of Economic Affairs.

Various reports released over recent years show that BRD has significantly strengthened its financial position by expanding long-term lending to key economic sectors. As a result, the Bank’s total assets grew from RWF 157 billion in 2019 to RWF 1,000 billion in 2025.

During this period, BRD recorded profits of RWF 22 billion and expanded its loan portfolio from RWF 167 billion to RWF 710 billion.

These figures confirm BRD’s transition into sustained profitability and enhanced capacity to attract international financing. This includes a recently approved RWF 36 billion loan from the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA), aimed at supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Additionally, in August 2025, BADEA and the Government of Rwanda signed a USD 45 million loan agreement, facilitated through BRD, to finance development projects.

Through its programs, BRD has also enabled more than 510,000 households to gain access to electricity under the “Cana Uhendukiwe” initiative, while supporting the creation of over 300,000 jobs nationwide.
