Former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga Dies at 80 While Undergoing Treatment in India

Raila Odinga, the former Prime Minister of Kenya, has died at the age of 80 while receiving medical treatment in India. Reports indicate that he suffered a cardiac arrest in the early hours of the morning.
Odinga passed away at the Ayurvedic Eye Hospital and Research Centre located in Koothattukulam, Ernakulam District.
His death occurred around 9:00 a.m. local time on Wednesday in India. He had been admitted to the facility for the past five days, accompanied by his daughter and personal physician.
According to the hospital’s management, all further matters following his death are being handled by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs and the Kenyan Embassy in New Delhi.
Odinga was a regular patient at the same hospital, where his daughter, Rosemary Odinga, had previously received treatment after losing her sight in 2017. She regained her vision in 2019 and publicly thanked the doctors for restoring it.
Raila Odinga served as Kenya’s Prime Minister from 2008 to 2013. He made several unsuccessful bids for the presidency and remained one of the country’s most prominent opposition figures, known for challenging successive governments.
