Police arrest three young men in machete attack on woman

Rwanda National Police have arrested three young men filmed using machetes to attack and rob a woman in Rwampara Cell, Nyarugenge Sector, Kigali.

The incident happened on Thursday evening, September 11, 2025. In the video, one of the suspects is seen slashing the woman with a machete as she lay on the ground, before the group stole her handbag and phone.

Police confirmed the arrests on Friday evening through their official X account. Police Spokesperson ACP Boniface Rutikanga said the suspects were taken into custody the same day and remain under investigation.

He reassured the public that security is guaranteed, stressing that “such acts of violence are unacceptable” and that no criminal can evade law enforcement.

The victim has received medical treatment and is in stable condition.
