268 Graduates from KETHA Eager to Enter the Labor Market

The Kigali Excellent Tourism and Hospitality Academy (KETHA) has successfully certified 268 graduates into the labour market, equipped with qualifications tailored for the hospitality and tourism sectors.

These individuals have completed rigorous courses offered in three-year, one-year, six-month, and three-month programs, providing them with a comprehensive skill set.

During a ceremony held on March 22, 2024, KETHA’s esteemed partners, including the Kigali Marriott Hotel, Radisson Blue, Kigali Convention Centre, Park Inn by Radisson, Century Park, Lemigo Hotel, The Retreat by Heaven, Nyungwe Nziza Eco-Lodge, Great Season Hotel, Grazia Hotel, and Jeet’s Hospitality and Tourism Management, were commended for their collaborative efforts with the City of Kigali. Their support has been instrumental in empowering students and facilitating their integration into the workforce.

Furthermore, scholarships were awarded to exceptional students who excelled in their studies, enabling them to pursue higher education at renowned universities such as Mount Kigali University, East African University Rwanda, and Jeet’s Hospitality and Tourism Management in Mauritius. This partnership, reaffirmed annually, aims to bolster the school’s capacity and equip students with the knowledge necessary for national development.

Reflecting on their experience, graduates expressed gratitude for the robust education provided by KETHA, which has not only honed their skills but also enhanced their employability. They dispelled misconceptions about vocational courses, emphasizing that such programs offer viable career pathways, as highlighted by the Human Resources Manager at Century Park.

One notable graduate, Keza Shine Blessing from the culinary arts, emphasized, “We have acquired substantial knowledge that elevates our status, challenging stereotypes associated with vocational education. We are ready to enter the workforce, pursue further education, and make meaningful contributions to the hospitality industry.”

Dr. Habimana Alphonse, Director of KETHA, underscored the school’s significant impact on the hospitality sector, citing success stories where graduates seamlessly integrated into the workforce. He remarked, “Our graduates fulfill industry demands, bridging the gap between training and employment. We are committed to expanding our reach to accommodate more students and meet market demands.”

KETHA, operational since 2020, has consistently placed its graduates in the labor market, attracting diverse students ranging from high school graduates in tourism or hotel services to those undergoing short-term courses in food preparation and service. The school’s inclusive approach welcomes students of varying backgrounds and qualifications.

Mr. Rubangutsangabo Jean, Director of Economic Development in Kigali, praised KETHA’s collaborative efforts in youth empowerment and economic development. He urged continued cooperation from the private sector to effectively engage youth in the labor market, fostering sustained growth and progress.
